Assembling & Donning
The iEvac® E500 Industrial Escape Hood

Remove the hood and cartridge from the nylon carry case.

The iEvac® E500 chemical mask comes assembled with a receptacle to screw the cartridge on the left side of the Respirator and a screw-in plug on the right side of the respirator to seal off the other receptacle. If you would prefer to have your cartridge on your right side, upon receiving the respirator mask for chemical fumes follow the instructions below so that the respirator is ready for emergency use.

    1. Unscrew the respirator plug from the right-side receptacle of the respirator.

    2. Screw the respirator plug into the left side receptacle of the respirator until resistance is met.

    Prepare For Use

    ATTACHING THE CARTRIDGE
    1. Remove the screw-on cover on the protruding end of the cartridge.
    2. Remove the cartridge plug from the top of the cartridge, this will simultaneously break and remove the tamper proof label.
    3. Screw the cartridge clockwise onto the open cartridge receptacle on the hood until resistance is met.

Donning The iEvac® E500 Escape Hood

    The hood pulls over your head like a ski mask. Look at the pictures to see how it is worn. Your head goes inside with the nose-cup at the front and the hood opening goes around your neck.

    1. Loosen the adjustable head straps by lifting the back tabs (protruding end). and press in the cord lock and loosen the cord at the bottom of the neck closure, so that the hood and neck closure are fully open.

    2. Hold the cartridge with one hand and the bottom of the hood with your other hand.

    3. Pull the hood over your head, make sure that the nose-cup is covering your nose and mouth and fits under your chin, and pull the neck closure down to the bottom of your neck.

    4. Push the hood back so the nose-cup is firmly positioned on your face and the hood is at the back of your head.

    5. Hold the cartridge with one hand and position the head straps with the other hand, until obtaining a firm and comfortable fit against the face at all points.

    6. Using both hands, grip the D-rings attached to the end of the straps and tighten the adjustable head straps so that the nose-cup and hood are snug against your face and the cartridge is held firmly in place.

  • If the nose-cup and hood does not feel snug against face or the cartridge does not feel secure, loosen the adjustable head straps, and reposition the nose-cup and hood, and then retighten.

    7. Grab the elastic cord at the bottom of the hood and pull it tight.

    8. Push the cord lock in and tighten & release to lock. The neck closure should now fit snugly against your neck.

Removing The iEvac® E500 Escape Hood

Return to an uncontaminated area before removing the respirator. Check that the respirator and your clothing are free from contamination before removing. When it is safe to do so, remove the respirator:

1. Press in the cord lock and loosen the cord at the bottom of the neck closure.
2. Loosen head straps: Lift the tab (protruding end) of one connecting buckle with your thumb and, with your other hand, extend and loosen the head strap. Repeat with the second buckle and head strap.
3. Pull the iEvac E500 over your head.
